Staying true to my style

It's unusual for me to aspire to wear something overly complicated.  I strive to have a certain standard aesthetically with my outfits, but the truth is I wear the same kind of style most days and rarely deviate from routine.

Blogging is a strange thing.  My personal experience of blogging has seen my thought process fluctuate on what blogging is and what I should be bringing to the blogging table.  Initially it made me look at my style thinking it was rather boring since it was repetitive.  It made me question why my style would be unique, inspiring, or worthy of being a basis for any blog posts.  As a result, I thought I should mix things up and mentally approached this as kind of a project, looking at how I could progress.  As time passed and I failed to overcome or move past my normal looks and purchases, I realised that I was glad I hadn't made any changes.

My wardrobe and blog are an accurate representation at the end of the day it portrays me as an individual and is indicative of my personality all the complexities that involves. I choose to buy and wear things that I value and that make me feel good as opposed to wearing items for egotistical reasons such as gaining followers or popularity.

Fashion (and blogging) shouldn't be about trying to impress anyone or diminishing one's own style to appeal to the masses.  It is just about having integrity and communicating, in my case, my own little fashion journey and perspective. It's all rather simple really.  So for today's post it's jeans and a blazer.

  1. I couldn't agree with more Mandi! I think your style is great and that's what I like about your blog, that it is sincere and a representation of your style. I also try to approach my blog the same way. Have a great week! xx Kayin

  3. That blazer is lovely on you and the jeans are perfect! :) I like that your blog is just you being you and showcasing what you wear. That's what I find interesting, seeing how other people actually wear things.

  5. Absolutely, I have been thinking the same thing lately. Do I wear something because it is 'cool' that I wouldn't ordinarily wear, or do I just showcase my own style, even if it isn't as attention grabbing as others. I have gone with the latter- if I am not comfortable in it then it is not a representation of 'me'. In saying this, I do enjoy blogging as it does push me to be more creative within those personal style boundaries.

  6. Your style is anything but boring!!! I don't know if it just me, as in because I am getting more and more drawn to simpler dressing (due to the 'change in lifestyle' in the last few years), but I find that more and more people are 'getting back to basics'.

My outfits are 99% of the time also 'variations on a theme': striped top or a shirt, jeans (or other casual pants), and a jacket (quite often my favourite part of an outfit), with relatively low-heeled shoes (ah, my 4" heels hardly see the light of day nowadays!).

That Balmain jacket is just STUNNING!

  10. I admire that throughout your blogging you have stayed true to your style. I often question if I should be trying to dress a little more exciting and deep down I know that just isn't me - the most important thing is to shop for yourself and not for your blog. LOVE this look, so you, down to a T.

  12. I think you're totally right with your writing. It's not about impressing other people and changing your own style - I also see my blog as a platform, where I can show and share my personal sense of style, that may not be supertrendy and stuff all the time, but it's part of me. :)

Well, I can just say, that I'm really happy, that I found your blog because I love YOUR style. This coat is amazing and the pictures are just awesome. :) I'm definitely following and looking forward to new posts.

    Xx, Sara.

  22. I totally get what you meant by wearing similar style clothes all the time. I am the same way but i think it's the subtle variations and repetitions in the mix and match of old and new and high and low that really make it so much more interesting.
i just think everyone sort of have their own signature style...and may be once in a while we go all crazy/creative just for that special occasion.

  23. The Balmain blazer looked like it was custom made for you. And the flared jeans just gave me a slightly more retro vibe. Sophistication with retro. Very unique and very very chic. I've reached a stage where I'm comfortable with my own style. I've tried other looks but always came back to the same pants/t-shirt/jacket every single time.
