One of the boys

For those of you that know me, you will have a clear vision of me standing tall in at least four inch heels pretty much day in, day out.  You may even label me a 'clacker' (please tell me you've seen the Devil Wears Prada).  But the recent year or so has me stalking some flatter shoes. Yes gasp! Loafers and ballet flats have entered my shoe closet and now my love of flats is gaining further momentum.  For a devoted well heeled girl, drawing one's attention to the flat counterpart is no easy task.  Cue my latest and realistically wearable addiction, mannish footwear.  Think brogues, monk shoes or an ankle boot (the rugged riding or chelsea style).

Brogues were traditionally considered to be outdoor or country footwear and not appropriate for casual or business wear. Alot has changed and you can spot them on some super stylish ladies. They are favourited by the likes of tomboy(ish) dressers including Alexa Chung, Agyness Deyn, Sienna Miller, Tilda Swinton and Coco Sumner.  Once you have tried a pair on, you can understand the attraction.

I recently purchased my first pair. The N.D.C. version photographed above (and featured below, number 5).  I went for a more basic pair that would be easy to style with more casual weekend looks.  The brogues are the perfect partner with boyfriend jeans for lazy days or to see you through the times when you just need to walk all day long.

Below are are few of my favourite mannish footwear designs from this season.  I can firmly say, everyone needs at least one pair.  Not because they are 'in vogue' in a huge way this year, or for the reason that you can wear them with everything under the sun, but because we all need an alternate to heels and a change from the never-ending sneaker trend.

  1. Oh those NDC brogues look awesome. I just sent a pair back to Yoox as they killed my legs. It's a losing battle this one I'm having with brogues - I just can't seem to find that perfect pair for me.

Hey - flats are comfy aren't they ;o)

    1. Flats you definitely have to find the perfect pair. I have an expectation with flats that they will be 100% comfortable. Anything less and I would send them back too. I'm sure you will find your perfect pair. There are so many out there at the moment. I have to say, I'm not converted from heels to flats but I'm liking the 50/50 balance!

  2. I love the pair you have on. And how exciting that you're wearing more flats, I remember our conversation! I have my eye on the Chloe ballet flats, so beautiful xoxox

  3. Really like the brogues you're wearing, they look so lovely and practical :)

Once you start looking at flat shoes you find a surprising range out there - I definitely have more flats than heels now, they become so easy to justify as they are more practical and often more comfortable...

  4. I can't say that I myself wear nothing but heels. Often a pair of low heeled booties or even flats are more preferable to run through your day.

  5. I love your selection! I've been undergoing through a similar conundrum: I walk alot here in our city and high heels don't cut it anymore. It's been a major task that I am trying to acquire more flats as well. Your selection is awesome!

  6. I think it's great that you've been finding and wearing more flats that work for you. Those brogues are definitely a nice classic that you're going to have forever. Great neutral too.

  7. I've found myself going for more masculine flat shoes - it's so strange considering my prior obsession with heels, but my calf muscles were shortening and I started having back/hip problems so it makes sense to wear flat shoes, for me at least.

I love the pair you're wearing, they look really durable too!

Haha and as to your comment about trench coats, I actually have had one for about 4 years but it's a thin cotton, just purchased a thick drill cotton one so am waiting for it to arrive... until the day I finall buy a burb that is!

  8. I loooove Lanvin's flats. Ballerina and a pair of brogues I've bought last Autumn really beautiful! Comfortable too.....

  9. on definitely with you on this one. since my move to sydney most of my 4" heels have been sitting in the dark quite forlornly.. nice picks.. really like the NCD monk straps! :)

  14. These are great! I know what you mean... when I worked in Manhattan as a fashionista, I practically lived in stilettos, but since becoming a special education teacher, I've had to transition back to flats. Loafers are fun... a surprising trend, to say the least!
